Community Development Deputy Director for the City of Novi, MI

The City of Novi, MI, a beautiful community of 60,000+, is seeking to hire a Community Development

Deputy Director to support and oversee staff within the Community Development Department which

consists of the Planning and Building Divisions. This position will support employees involved in the

inspection and enforcement of building codes and ordinances, along with reviews for building permits

and certificates of occupancy. You will have the responsibility of performing the most difficult and

complex assignments involving code and ordinance interpretation and coordination. You will work

closely with the Community Development Director and the City Planner to maintain efficient and

effective use of department resources with a daily focus on customer service, staffing, project

management, and the mentoring and development of staff within the divisions.

Qualifications: Superior customer service skills, experience, and knowledge of building codes, reading

and interpreting plans, and construction documents. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management,

Architecture, Planning, Public Administration, or a closely related field from an accredited college or

university. Ten or more years of experience preferred. Master’s degree preferred. Licensed Building

Official or ability to obtain State license within 24 months of hire. Prior municipal experience highly

preferred.

Salary: $73,805 - $90,000, based on qualifications.
